What the fuck is going on here?

This isn’t the country that the Constitution was built upon.

This is some third world country, with a government doing its best to take the power away from the people.

This is ridiculous.

The worst part about it is, I know hundreds of smart people who are so stupidly blinded by partisan politics that they think this is NECESSARY.

BULLSHIT.

This sort of thing has NEVER been necessary.

Terrorism has existed for a LOT longer than 4 years, people. 9/11 just meant they made a bigger score against a bigger target. It does NOT mean we need to remove all mention of “Freedom” from the tongues of the people.

I now live in a country that saying “I hate the president” in the wrong place, at the wrong time, could land me in prison.

Under this new “expanded” PATRIOT act, I can now be arrested because they THINK I don’t like the president.

This is the first time where my beliefs on this thing has made me question a friendship. I know someone who thinks this is a GREAT idea, and now I’m not sure I want to be associated with this person as a friend.

If you think this is going to do more good than bad, get your head out of your ass and READ the constitution and then READ this “act”.

If you further think this is doing more good, then go away, and make your own country, you’re not taking mine.

I’m running for the next open Senate seat in Arkansas, if I’m still living here. Fuck city council, they’re doing okay - it’s the feds that are ruining our nation.

Your absolutely right!
I have friends who a month ago where arrested for Patriots Act. Two girls are from Russia, one has a green card, and the other one is in the process of getting it. The other girl is American. This girls are photographers(really good ones, one of them goes to school in NY to study photo.) They went to this old industrial fabric that has not been working for years, its abandoned and the love the angles and the light in there. Anyhow, they were shooting and police pulled up, another second few more pulled up and so on and on. They were arrested. You think they would be charges with trans passing oh no! They charged them with Patriots act, saying that they were terrorist, police made up a bunch of bullshit like they don’t speak English(thats funny they are fluent in English), and that they were rude and making threats. They took them to jail, set a bond for $50,000 per head, held them in separate cells, they didn’t feed them for 3-4 days, they were freezing and on top of that they could not speak to nobody! Not even their lawyer. Anyhow bad story they are working this out right now. But when this happened I was thinking my god where is this country going to?

What makes you think they didnt do it anyway before all this?

There are parts of the gov forbidden from acting on US soil. Yet they do act on us soil.

The reason this doesnt get me all upset is that the very idea that they dont do this stuff that makes me smile.

As for terrorism being only four years old…your right and actually America was founded and solidified by terrorists. One mans terrorist is another mans freedom fighter.

oh I know ALL about that.

I’m, of course, not at liberty to discuss the details.

But I can discuss rumors of the military being used to perform operations in certain parts of the SW states.

hmm

where’d you find this information? I’ve been looking for seat availability for some time, now.

I’d consider the House, if they weren’t so powerless.

Well, I remembered that Pryor got elected in 2002, and that Lincoln just won reelection.

Wait, I’m wrong, too many years.

If you look back though american History, you’ll find federal rulings like the Patriot Act to be the rule rather than the exception. No fewer than three ‘traitor’ laws which were gross violations of the Bill of Rights were passed between the time of Washington and Lincoln.

Ethnic minorities have always been prosicuted, even when those ‘ethnic’ groups were Irish, Italian and Greek.

I in no way endorse this new bill, I thought the old one went to far already, but given the chance, someone will repress someone else for personal gain. Elimiating this bill will simply change how it’s done.

I know, it’s old hat, really.. But it’s getting worse.

I don’t think so. I think that it seems worse given our advances in communication, and increased sence of value on human life.

In Lincoln’s day there’s no way a rant in AZ would have illicted a responce with reply to an action in NY in less than a week. Also, if they’d have just accidentally burned down the warehouse the girls were in, and arrested anyone who complained, we never would have heard.

I read a lot about vigilantte justice in the 19th century, and I read a lot obout legal prosicution of vigalantte’s in the 21st century. Its not surprising that as I become less able to just beat the crap out of people who I know deserve it, we see th government increasing it’s ability to beat the crap out fo them for me.

The issue is that the government and I don’t always agree on who deserves the beating.
