a quote

March 28th, 2005

“The more you can increase fear of drugs and crime, welfare mothers, immigrants and aliens, the more you control all the people”

Now if someone can guess the year that was said, I’ll tell you who said it. If, after 10 or so guesses, no one gets it, I’ll make a post about it.

I think you’ll be amazed as to WHEN it was said.

I know it’s Noam Chomsky, and the first time I remember hearing it was about a year and a half ago– not sure of an exact year, but it can’t be that old a quotation. Last three years?

Funny, that quote made me think of Reagan for some reason. I’m sure he didn’t say it, though.

I’ll go out on a loop, and say it was way back in 1945 when WWII was over, and all the NAZIs on trial were admitting how they did their crimes.

close, every source I’ve found has put it before 9/11.

a very good guess, but the fairy_wench got close enough for me on the first try, so..

but yeah, it’s applied that far back, as well.

Yeah, like I said, I’m just attributing it to the year I first heard it. But it’s a valid statement, whatever the year.

March, 2001, to be exact.

Unfortunately, I’ve not been able to find any other dates, and I’m now beginning to question the validity of that source.

Noam is a hack.

I can find SONG lyrics that say basically the same thing from the 70s.

He may be a hack, but what he said is no less valid because of that. I can find lots of lyrics from a variey of times to say a variety of things. I’d probably consider most of them hacks, too, but it doesn’t necessarily make the statements any less valid.

I’m not saying it does, but I seriously can’t stand the attention he gets for being some visionary. He isn’t. He has very little concept of what life is like for those outside of academia. He is so seperated from the ‘common man’ than when he claims to speak of control methods for them it makes me cringe.

Er, sorry I could go and on and on… I just don’t understand how a linguist (one whose work is being overturned) got such a following.

Welcome to my world… I feel the same way about so many authors, etc, that are widely accepted as great geniuses.

I will leave you to the tongue-lashing from fairy_wench.
