1) If you had to be deaf or blind, which would it be?

That’s probably the toughest question that’s ever been posed to me. My first instinct is to say deaf, as I don’t know if I’d want to go on without seeing the world around me. However, the more I think about it, the more I lean to being deaf, as I wouldn’t have to see the world around me. The “bonus” might be that my hearing would compensate, and I might hear things I’d never heard before.

2) You have to pick an entire culture of people to remove from existence, so that the rest of the world can live - who do you pick?

You like tough questions, don’t you? I’d ask the world, who wants to go to save the rest of it. Unfortunately, that would probably start some kind of war, somewhere, somehow. If that failed, I’d probably have to research to find a culture of people that had already placed its mark on other cultures sufficiently enough for it to “survive”, and also would have to be small, as I don’t like the idea of removing anyone from existence.

3) If you had to pick one motto, kernel of wisdom, saying…to be etched in to history forever, and commonly known to all, what would it be?

If you continually live in fear of something you couldn’t stop if you wanted to, you’ll never get anywhere in life.

4) If it were you looking in to the Mirror of Erised (from the Harry Potter books) what would your reflection look like?

I don’t recall what the mirror does exactly, but I recall it has something to do with your heart’s desire. That’s not something that I’m sure could be reflected in such a device, as it’s an concept, not a thing. Truth. About everything - existence, “the who”, “the when”, “the where”, “the why”. And perhaps even “the how”.

5) What is the most profound thing you think a man can suffer?

I can only say the most profound thing I’ve had to suffer - having one’s belief in oneself dashed to pieces, and in the process having one’s beliefs (religiously/spirtually) destroyed as well. In the end of it all, I found myself stronger in conviction, and stronger in faith in many things. Almost like Nietzsche said, “That which does not kill you..”

Did you really think I would ask thoughtless questions?

My thought-answer waffled the way yours did. An immediate, “Deaf!” then about 30 seconds of mental music that I heard at one time and loved so much that I have it readily available in my mind. Then the question got hard…

Deaf is more fixable (and compensatable for me), so I’d still chose that for the purposes of answering the question, but it is with multi-threadded conflicted regrets. *sigh* I just don’t think I could learn to read Braille as well as I would have to to consume as much reading material as I do now (both physical and virtual)!

of course not.. but now I feel like I have to go back and re-think the questions I asked others.. heh..

You know.. I hadn’t even thought about music, and that pushes the “blind” response even more.

Who needs braille when you have an ipod and audio books at itunes?
