Wish I could say the same.
Ever back down on something you believe in to save your own neck?

luckily not everyone has ever been in a life or death situation.
Yep! Women!
In all seriousness though, there are times in which retreat is a better option. Living to fight another day isn’t ALWAYS a bad thing. This is not to belittle what they died for or why they died or despite that they were heroes.
It all depends on the situation. And I wouldn’t say that everyone that backs down from what they believe in just to save themselves… is choosing the wrong thing. There are times to make a stand. And times to back down. If you’re always doing one choice and never the other… something’s probably wrong.

At about the time you wrote this, I had said in fact to my friend, I dont remember much about the conversation, but I said “Yeah, at one point I wanted to be an astronaut when I was little… until I saw that shuttle explode in 1988, and even at that age my first reaction was ‘Maybe construction workers have cool jobs too’ Lifes too fuckin short to do dumb shit.”
