something to think about..

September 6th, 2002

In response to someone dissing the constitution because of sore feelings about how the US is doing in foreign affairs and the like, said:

The Constitution and the Flag do not stand for the people in office. They stand for the ideal that everyone is equal. It doesn’t stand for the right of some dumb bitch in a car to sue someone because she was stupid enough to squeeze her legs when she had hot coffee between them — it stands for the right for someone to sue because they were denied a job because of the color of their skin. The President and Congress and all those people have made mockery of the ideal that America was meant to stand for. Don’t hate America for what it’s become. Hate those who have taken their power and used it for their own ends.

Hmm.. indeed.

I often vote for the “lesser” of two evils usually the person I think that won’t take more taxes from me as we are already paying tons in taxes and paying back student loans. I’m all in favor of Thomas Jefferson’s quote that the country needs a good revolution every few years–not necessarily a physical conflict but basically Americans telling the politicians to stuff it, sit down, and shut up. That and wouldn’t be nice to get back our pioneer spirit, to get rid of Corporate America and the stress that goes with it, and to stop dumbing down the school system to name a few.

BOOYAH!
I like you already!

….Would you be able to provide a source for this lovely morsel of a quote? Just so I can drool over it, you see….

Mmmmm. Sleep-dep makes Erika strange.

The constitution, and the bill of rights (insert caps as appropriate) have much less remaining power than people want to believe. Small laws get etched in here and there and are given prescedence over the basics. The protections afforded by the constitution are not truly enjoyed by the American public anymore. It’s moving towards autocracy with an advising body, and we the peons don’t have the organizational skills to change that, and so few people care because it doesn’t directly affect them.

There will be a Second American Civil War, but not any time really soon, but possibly in our lifetimes.

The Jefferson quote? The actual quotes are from the Notes on the State of Virginia. “The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants. It is its natural manure.” the date is November 13, 1787

January 30, 1787–”A little rebellion every now and then is a good thing, and as necessary in the political world as storm in the physical.”

It’s a letter to James Madison.

Jefferson has several quotes like these two in his letters to various people.

Thankee. I shall have to find, and read. Who knows what other interesting points I’ll think of.

You know, I’ve been saying this since David Koresh and all that Waco crap happened. I really don’t want to see violence, though.

My thought on the matter - just reset the system back to the Constitution, re-vamped for modern language, with the Bill of Rights integrated into it.

Haha… but the people who have the power to do that would have too much to loose. That’s why I think it’ll come to civil war. It’s the natural course of culling and resetting things back to a level that’s comfortable for the populous.
